Notes
  • Experiment
Congenic line analysis was used to refine the Char2 locus on mouse Chromosome 8. Nine recombinant congenic strains were created by repeatedly backcrossing B6.C3-Char2 to parental strain C57BL/6J. Animals from each subcongenic line were tested for malariaresistance by injection with red blood cells infected with Plasmodium chabaudi. The Char2 region appears to harbor 2 separate QTLs, designated Char2a and Char2b. Char2a is located between D8Mit27a (33 cM) and D8Mit266 (43 cM). Char2b is located between D8Mit14 (67 cM) and D8Mit56 (73 cM). C3H/HeJ-derived alleles at Char2a and Char2b appear to confer susceptibility to malaria.
