  ENU mutatgenesis was performed on C57BL/6J males. Potential mutations were crossed onto a (C57BL/6J x C3H) hybrid background. Forty-three polymorphic markers were used to map new mutations, and ultrasound imaging was used to screen mutant fetuses with cardiovascular defects. A recessive mutation called pta (persistent truncus arteriosis) mapped to a 5 Mb interval between D2Mit395 (66.9 cM) and D2Mit398 (57.9 cM).
