  Using an RFLV for Spna1, homozygotes for sph alleles (sph, sph-ha, sph-2J, sph-2BC) that had been placed on the C57BL/6J and WB/Re genetic backgrounds were analzyed. These congenics, representing 71 informative backcrosses, showed that no recombination had occurred between sph and Spna1 during the transfer of sph from the strain on which the mutant arose, thus indicating close linkage. The sph alleles are probably mutations of Spna1.
