Genetic loci confering susceptibility to repetitive pinch-induced catalepsy were mapped in 296 CBA/Nov x (CBA/Nov x AKR/J)F1 backcross animals. 65 polymorphic markers for the genome scan. Parental strain CBA/Nov is susceptible to pinch-induced catalepsy (lasting longer than 1 minute) compared to parental strain AKR/J.

Significant linkage to catalepsy susceptibility mapped to 74 cM on mouse Chromosome 13 near D13Mit78 (P<0.0016). This locus is named Catys1 (catalepsy susceptibility 1). CBA/Nov-derived alleles at Catys1 confer susceptibility to pinch-induced catalepsy as 74% of backcross animals homozygous for this allele exhibit the phenotype. Potential candidate genes for Catys1 include Itga1 (65 cM), Itga2 (64 cM), Fgf10 (75 cM), and Htr1a (58 cM).

Suggestive linkage to catalepsy susceptibility mapped to 61 cM on mouse Chromosome 13 near D13Mit76 (P=0.058).
