Resistance to Gross leukemia virus mapped to mouse Chromosome 17 near the H2 locus (23 cM) in a (C3Hf/Bi x C57BL/6)F2 intercross population. This locus is named Rgv1 (resistance to Gross virus 1). Parental strain C3Hf/Bi carries the k allele at H2 and issusceptible to Gross virus whereas parental strain C57BL/6 carries the b allele at H2 and is highly resistant. Resistance to Gross virus at Rgv1 appears to be dominantly inherited from the C57BL/6 strain. C4b, which maps to 18.8 cM, is a potential candidate gene for Rgv1. A second unlinked locus named Rgv2 is thought to segregate in the F2 population.
