Notes
  • Experiment
Linkage analysis was performed on 400 (C57BL/6J x DBA/2J)F2 animals and 26 BXD RI strains to identify QTLs associated with skeletal phenotypes. A panel of 672 microsatellite markers was used in the genome scan for the BXD RI group and 96 microsatellite markers at a resolution of 15-20 cM were used in the genome scan for the F2 group. Loci identified with significant linkage in the F2 group and confirmed in the BXD RI group are reported here.

An interval on mouse Chromosome 15 between 45 cM - 62 cM showed linkage to femur stiffness, femur modulus, femur ultimate load, and femur medullary area. This locus is named Bntq15 (bone traits QTL 15). Maximum linkage occurred at 52 cM for femur ultimate load (LOD=4.3). A potential candidate gene mapping near Bntq15 is Col2a1 at 54.5 cM. Previously identified QTLs mapping near Bntq15 are Bmd4 (43 cM) and Vtbt17 (32 cM).
