  C57BL/6J-+/hea mice were mated to either the MOLD/Rk or the AKR/J strain. The (B6 MOLD)F1-+/hea or (B6 AKR)F1-+/hea progeny were backcrossed to the parental C57BL/6J-+/hea mice. These crosses generated 249 and 83 hea/hea offspring from the MOLD and AKR/J backcross, respectively. The hea/hea mice were analyzed to show that hea mapped with D17Mit130 within a region that included the Tct7 locus. Further physical mapping evidence was informative to show that both hea and fsn are mutant forms of Tct7.
