Linkage analysis was performed on 402 animals from a B10.RIII-H2r/SgKljLund x RIIIS/J)F1 x B10.RIII-H2r/SgKljLund backcross to identify QTLs associated with experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) traits. Parental strain B10.RIII-H2r/SgKljLund is susceptible to developing EAE upon immunization with myelin basic protein (MBP) 89-101 peptide whereas parental strain RIIIS/J is resistant. 150 microsatellite markers were used for the genome scan.

A locus on mouse Chromosome 18 near D18Mit4 (57 cM) showed suggestive linkage to incidence of remitting EAE disease in male animals (LRS=10.7). This locus is thought to be the previously identified QTL Eae18.

6.30.2015 Curators Note: Because Eae18 was originally mapped in J:29171 in 1995 using (ABH x NOD)F1 x NOD backcross mice, which differ from the mice used in this cross, we consider the current study a separate mapping experiment and have named this QTL Eae47.
