Notes
  • Experiment
Linkage analysis was performed on 16 LGXSM (LG=LG/J; SM=SM/J) recombinant inbred (RI) lines to identify QTLs associated with obesity and diabetes traits. Parental strain LG/J exhibits a larger body size compared to parental strain SM/J and these two strains also differ in obesity and diabetes related traits in response to dietary fat. 506 microsatellite markers at an average spacing of 2 to 3 cM were used in the genome scan. 39 loci were mapped but only those reaching genomewide significance are reportedhere.

On mouse Chromosome 11, an interval between D11Mit71 (1.1 cM) and D11Mit173 (17 cM) shows linkage to triglyceride levels on a high fat diet. This locus is named Tgyl1 (triglyceride level 1). SM/J-derived alleles confer increased triglycerides at this locus.
