Notes
  • Experiment
487 animals from a heterogeneous stock designated UM-HET3 were analyzed for bone (femur) geometry traits. UM-HET3 is derived from a cross between (BALB/cJ x C57BL/6J)F1 x (C3H/HeJ x DBA/2J)F1. 99 polymorphic markers at an average spacing of 15 cM - 20 cM were used in the genome scan. Nine geometric traits were evaluated for each femur.

Linkage to standard deviation of outer fiber length (StdOFL) and shape factor (SF) mapped to 52 cM on mouse Chromosome 12 near D12Mit167. This locus is designated Fmgty10. C57BL/6J-derived alleles confer increased StdOFL compared to BALB/cJ-derived alleles, and BALB/cJ-derived alleles confer increased SF compared to C57BL/6J-derived alleles.
