Experiment
Linkage analysis was performed on 19 BXD (B=C57BL/6J; D=DBA/2J) recombinant inbred (RI) strains to identify QTLs associated with ethanol-induced hyperglycemia. A total of 275 animals were used in the study. Animals were injected intraperitoneally with 4 g/kg of 20% ethanol solution and assessed for body temperature and blood glucose level. Parental strain C57BL/6J exhibits increased blood glucose level before ethanol injection, and also exhibits greater elevation of blood glucose concentration after ethanol injection, compared to DBA/2J.
Female specific provisional QTLs associated with post injection hyperglycemia mapped to mouse Chromosomes 1 (56 cM; D1Ncvs69 and 77 cM; D1Ncvs47), 3 (41.3 cM; Fgg), 9 (29 cM; D9Mit4), and 14 (19 cM; D14Ncvs37). Male specific provisional QTLs associated with post injection hyperglycemia mapped to mouse Chromosomes 4 (62 cM; Cxv2), 6 (6 cM; D6Ncvs32), 7 (50 cM; D7Rik78), 12 (19 cM; D12Mit2), and 18 (21 cM; Mltr7).
QTLs associated with post injection rectal temperature were also examined. These provisional QTLs mapped to mouse Chromosomes 2 (50.3 cM; D2Mit12), 7 (6.5 cM; Cyp2a and 23 cM; Ngfg), 8 (43.5 cM; D8Ncvs66), 11 (48 cM; D11Ncvs46), 12 (52 cM; D12Ncvs49), 16 (27 cM; D16Bir1), and 19 (12 cM; D19Ncvs27) in females.Male specific QTLs mapped to mouse Chromosomes 5 (41 cM; D5Mni25e-*marker not found in MGI), 7 (6.5 cM; Cyp2a and 23 cM; Klk1b3), 8 (43.5 cM; D8Ncvs66), 11 (26 cM; Mpmv4), 12 (15 cM; Tpo and 52 cM; D12Ncvs49), 13 (34 cM; Ms6-1), and 16 (25 cM; D16Ncvs6).
