  • Experiment
203 (C57BL/6J x A/J)F2 mice were screened for 90 microsatellite markers at an average spacing of 22 cM to identify QTLs associated with formalin-induced nociception. Parental strain C57BL/6J is more sensitive to formalin-induced nociception compared to parental strain A/J. Two significant QTLs, Nociq1 and Nociq2, mapped to 55 cM on mouse Chromosome 9 and to 69 cM on mouse Chromosome 10, respectively. Nociq1 has a QTL range of 44 cM - 68 cM and gives a peak LOD score of 5.2 at D9Mit182. C57BL/6J-derived alleles confer increased hindlimb licking 0-10 minutes after formalin injection (early/acute phase) with dominant inheritance. Nociq2 has a QTL range of 34 cM - tel and gives a peak LOD score of 4.3 at D10Mit35. C57BL/6J-derived alleles confer increased hindlimb licking 0-10 minutes (early/acute phase) and 10-90 minutes (late phase) after formalin injection. Nociq2 exhibits either dominant or additive inheritance.
