Notes
  • Experiment
214 (LG/J x SM/J)F2 female animals were genotyped for 96 microsatellite markers to identify QTLs associated with maternal performance. Successful maternal performance was measured by survival of the litter 1 week after birth. Parental strain LG/J exhibits lower rates of maternal success compared to parental strain SM/J. A QTL showing significance at the genome-wide level, Mprf (maternal performance), mapped to 0.5 cM on mouse Chromosome 7 with a LOD score of 3.21 at D7Mit21. This locus shows underdominance where heterozygous females are less successful than homozygous females of either genotype. A suggestive locus mapped to 69 cM on mouse Chromosome 2 with a LOD score of 2.43 at D2Mit17. The chromosome 2 locus exhibits overdominance where heterozygous females exhibit greater maternal success compared to homozygous females. 15 epistatic interactions involving 23 loci were also mapped to all chromosomes except 12, 16, and 17.
