Notes
  • Experiment
Interval mapping was performed on 171 male mice from a (C57BL/6ByJ x 129/J)F2 cross to identify QTLs associated with sucrose consumption. Parental strain C57BL/6ByJ consumes more sucrose compared to parental strain 129/J. Two QTLs, Scon1 and Scon2, were identified on mouse Chromosome 4. Scon1 maps from 8.55 cM - 21.55 cM with a peak LOD score of 3.47 at D4Mit4 (12.1 cM). C57BL/6ByJ-derived alleles confer increased sucrose consumption with incomplete recessive inheritance at Scon1. Scon2 maps from 78 cM -88 cM with a peak LOD score of 5.82 at D4Mit42 (81 cM). C57BL/6ByJ-derived alleles confer increased sucrose consumption with a dominant mode of inheritance at Scon2. Together, Scon1 and Scon2 explain approximately 41% of the phenotypic variance. A possible candidate gene for Scon2 is Gnb1.
