    The authors identified the mouse histone genes by searching the public and Celera assemblies of the mouse genome. Replication-dependent histone mRNAs were identified as those regions that encode histone proteins and ended in the stem-loop sequence. The order of genes in the Hist2 gene cluster on mouse Chromosome 3 (band F1-F2) is as follows: Centromere - 5'- Hist2h2ac - 3' - 3'- Hist2h2ab - 5' - 5'- Hist2h2be - 3' - 3'- Hist2h3ca2 - 5' - 3'- Hist2h2aa2 - 5' - 5'- Hist2h2aa1 - 3' - 5'- Hist2h3ca1 - 3' - 3'- Hist2h4 - 5' - 5'- Hist2h3b - 3' - 5'- Hist2h2bb - 3' - telomere.
