Notes
  • Experiment
25 BXD (C57BL/6J x DBA/2J) recombinant inbred (RI) strains were screened for loci associated with blood ethanol concentration (BEC) and ethanol metabolism after IP ethanol administration. Parental strain C57BL/6J exhibits 10-15% slower elimination of blood alcohol compared to parental strain DBA/2J.

A locus mapping to 6.27 cM on mouse Chromosome 17, Etmr, reached statistical significance (P<0.001) in linkage with ethanol metabolism rate. Etmr has a QTL range of 3 cM - 20 cM on chromosome 17. A possiblecandidate gene for Etmr is Sod2.
