Notes
  • Experiment
Genome scan was performed on 421 animals from a M16i x (M16i x CAST/Ei)F1 backcross population to identify QTLs associated with body fat and body weight. Parental strain M16i displays rapid weight gain and increased body weight and fat carcasses, whereasparental strain CAST/Ei displays low body weight and lean carcasses. Significant linkage was detected on mouse Chromosome 2 at 56 cM - 65 cM (Bwfq1, LOD = 6.1 for association to body weight and LOD = 4.1 for association to gonadal fat pad weight) and at 77 cM - 90 cM (Bwfq2, LOD = 3.5 for association to body weight and LOD = 4.3 for association to gonadal fat pad weight). Bwfq2 maps near potential candidate genes agouti (a) and growth hormone releasing hormone (Ghrh).
