Notes
  • Experiment
A (A/J-Tyrc/Tyrc x CBA/J-Pdebrdl/Pdebrdl)F2 intercross was used to map QTLs associated with elevated plus maze behavior. Parental strain A/J-Tyrc/Tyrc is albino with a mutation in the tyrosinase gene and exhibits strong preference for closed arm entry of the maze. Parental strain CBA/J-Pdebrdl/Pdebrdl is mutant for the Pde6b gene and exhibits a weak preference for open arm entry of the maze. Two loci on mouse Chromosome 5, Elmaz1 and Elmaz2, are linked to open arm entry at 52 cM - 63 cM (LOD=1 6.4 between D5Mit20 and D5Mit405) and at 69 cM - 81 cM (LOD = 30.9 between D5Mit138 and D5Mit101), respectively. Pde6b maps to the first Chromosome 5 interval and is a strong candidate gene for Elmaz1. There is also evidence of linkage of closed armmaze entry with the Tyr gene on mouse Chromosome 7 at 44 cM.
