    69 polymorphic loci were screened 126 FVB/NJ X (I/LnJ X FVB/NMul-TgN(MMTVPyVT)634mul)F1 backcross animals to identify QTLs involved in mammary tumor growth. Strain FVB/NMul-TgN(MMTVPyVT)634mul is a transgenic mouse model for mammary tumors. (I/LnJ X FVB/NMul-TgN(MMTVPyVT)634mul)F1 animals exhibit earlier tumor formation but show 20% decrease in overall tumor mass. QTLs (LOD>3.3) involved in modifying mammary tumor growth, Mmtg1 and Mmtg2, mapped to mouse Chromosome 4 at 31 cM and 56 cM, respectively. Mmtg3 mapped to proximal mouse Chromosome 7 with peak association near D7Mit76. Mmtg1 has a QTL range defined by D4Mit214 and D4Mit348 and peaks at D4Mit17. Mmtg2 has a QTL range defined by D4Mit200 and D4Mit308. Mmtg1 and Mmtg2 regions are associated with loss of heterozygosity (LOH) in transgenic mouse models for mammary tumors, and Mmtg1 and Mmtg2 syntenic regions on human chromosomes are associated with LOH in human breast cancer.
