    63 C57BL/6 x (C57BL/6 x BALB/c)F1 backcross animals were analyzed via genome scan to identify QTLs associated with IL-4 levels. Parental inbred strain BALB/c exhibits 40 times more IL-4 than parental strain C57BL/6. Linkage was found on mouse chromosome 16 with a QTL range from 4.3 cM - 8.6 cM and LOD = 3.8 at D16Mit81. The locus was named Dice1 (determination of IL-4 commitment 1). A suggestive QTL mapped to mouse chromosome 7 near D7Mit103 at approximately 63.5 cM. This locus was named Dice2.
