Notes
  • Experiment
A single genetic locus Flv, on mouse Chromosome 5, controls virus titres and severity of flavivirus infection in mouse brain. The authors have developed two new flavivirus resistant mouse strains, C3H.M. domesticus-Flvr and C3H.MOLD-Flvmr, that carrynovel resistance alleles Flvr like and Flv,mr> respectively on a genetic background of flavivirus susceptible C3H/HeJ mice. Genome analysis of these strains has revealed a chromosomal region of 9 cM between D5Mit26 and D5Mit138 for the Flvr allele and a 11 cM region between D5Mit158 and Gus-s for the Flvmr allele that are derived from resistant donor mice. These new congenic strains represent new animal models of flavivirus resistance conferred by these novel resistance alleles.
