Experiment
A behavioral quantitative trait (QTL) identified in mice as Emo for emotionality was measured by the negative correlation of open-field ambulation (OFA) and open-field defaction (OFD). The Emo phenotype was assesed in 751 mice from heterogeneous stock derived from an eight way cross including the following inbred mouse strains: A/J, AKR/J, BALB/cJ, C3H/HeJ, C57BL/6J, DBA/2J, I/LnJ and RIIIS/J and found to be significantly correlated with Chromosome 1 marker D1Mit264 (ANOVA p value 3.1 x 10-9). To further refine the area containing the QTL the authors used the EUCIB mapping panel, YACs and RI strains. The following markers showed a significant association with the trait: D1Mit394, D1Mit100, D1Mit423, D1Mit198, D1Mit194 and D1Mit102. This allowed the authors to refine the trait to an approximate 0.2 cM region of mouse Chromosome 1, with an estimated cM position of 64.
