Phenotype Image Detail
Image
Caption (B) Testes from Kash5tm1b(KOMP)Wtsi/Kash5tm1b(KOMP)Wtsi (Kash5-null) animals are only ~25% of the size of those from wild-type (WT) littermates. (E) Hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) stained testis sections from WT and mutant littermates. The overall structure of the mutant testes is preserved with identifiable, albeit smaller, seminiferous tubules. At higher magnification (center panels) it is apparent that mutant seminiferous tubules lack sperm. WT testes have occasional TUNEL-positive nuclei (bottom panels). In mutant testes, widespread TUNEL staining is seen in ~30% of tubule cross sections.
