Plac1 ablation results in placentomegaly and apparent intrauterine growth retardation. Gross appearance of a typical placenta from a heterozygote Plac1^{tm1(KOMP)Vlcg}/Plac1⁺ that inherited the allele from the mother (X^m-X) and embryo at E16.5 is illustrated. Wild-type (WT) placenta = 103 mg; Placenta from a heterozygous mutant with the allele inherited from the mother = 215 mg.
