Caption Histological comparison of lungs from wild-type and Man1a2tm1.1Ahe/Man1a2tm1.1Ahe mice. A and B, both wild-type (+/+) and Man1a2tm1.1Ahe/Man1a2tm1.1Ahe (-/-) mice display typical branching at E18.5. However, the interalveolar septae in mutant lungs are thicker than those in wild-type lungs (arrows denote comparable regions). Magnification was x100 (A) and X400 (B). C, alveolar hemorrhaging is observed within the air spaces of mutant lungs (< P0.5, magnification x400). As expected the interalveolar septae of wild-type neonatal lungs are thinner than those observed in E18.5 lungs. However, the interalveolar septae in mutant neonates remain relatively thicker than those in wild-type lungs, as indicated by arrows. Hematoxylin and eosin stained sections are shown.
