Caption Fig A. shows 3 male(left) and 2 female(right) transgenic newborn pups. Males display a skull defect and failure of eye development. Fig B. A close up image of a transgenic male embryo. Males are described as having foreshortened crainofacial features, as well as being paler then normal neonates due to the bloodloss from the open cranium in utero. Fig C - Fig E. E9.5 control (C) and mutant embryos (D,E) showing the failure of the neural turbe closure (E). Fig D showing the forebrain neural folds closed to some extent, however, the cranial neuro folds remain open.
