Purkinje cell degeneration in Agtpbp1^pcd-5J/Agtpbp1^pcd-5J (5J) mice. Parasagittal P25 cerebellar sections were immunostained with anti-calbindin antibody and counterstained with DAPI (nuclei show blue fluorescence). DBA/2J (WT) P25 cerebellar sections show numerous Purkinje cell neurons with extensive dendritic arborization in the molecular layer (ML). Matching sections from homozygous mutant mice (5J) display pronounced Purkinje cell loss and marked degeneration of surviving Purkinje cells. PCL = Purkinje cell layer; GCL = granule cell layer.
