The location of the last formed somite is indicated by an asterisk. The black arrowhead in E indicates the anterior limit of Cdx2 expression; note the overlap with the posterior domain of Pax3 gene expression (white arrowhead in F). The dotted lines in E and F indicate the level at which the transverse sections shown in G and H were cut.
