(a,b), dorsal (a) and caudal (b) views of mice in which the paramedian lobule and crus II were removed. Images are focused on the plate-shaped area at the lateral copula pyramidis. Shaded areas are the cut end of removed lobules. Dotted curves are the boundary between the paraflocculus and copula pyramidis. Solid curves are the boundaries of lobules. Filled arrowheads are the medial extension of the parafloccular positive compartment. Open arrowheadsare the separation of positive compartments between the paraflocculus and copula pyramidis ("1" and "2"). Asterisks are the compartments with a sparse distribution of moderately-positive Purkinje cells in the paraflocculus and copula pyramidis. (c, d) horizontal (c1-c4; dorsal to ventral) and coronal (d1-d5; caudal to rostral) sections of the paraflocculus of adult mice separated by 250 microns, stained with X-gal and neutral red. Positive compartments were indicated by "1", "2", and "5" to be consistent with those in Figures 2-4.
