Subfields of S1 and individual barrels (a-e). V1 is a triangular shape pointing toward rostral rows of the posteromedial barrel subfield (pmbsf). A1 is a roughly oval field, caudolateral to S1. The hl field of S1, the pmbsf, and A1 lie along a line running rostromedial to caudolateral in the hemisphere (D, arrowheads).
