Caption (A) Yolk sac and embryo morphology of control and Bmp10tm1.1(Gdf2)Minh/Bmp10tm1.1(Gdf2)Minh (Bmp109/9) mice at different stages. (B) Heart gross morphology and histology of control and homozygous mutant animals at E17.5. Up to E16.5, mutant embryos did not exhibit any gross developmental defects. Starting around E16.5, mutants were affected by apparent hemorrhage and edema, with increased severity in older embryos. At E17.5, the gross morphology of the heart became overtly abnormal, with enlarged size and altered shape (B). A majority of mutant hearts also presented with ventricular septal defects (B).
