Caption

A: Temporal expression in XX and XY gonads from 10.5 to 12.5 days post coitum (dpc) embryos by whole-mount in situ hybridization. The gonad (G, arrow) is a thin layer of cells on the top of the mesonephros (M, arrow) at early stages. In the whole-mount stains for Bmp2, the gonad is turned slightly toward the viewer. B: Spatial expression in a 12.5 dpc XX gonad by section in situ hybridization. The dark purple stain represents specific binding of the RNA antisense probes in all in situ hybridizations.
