Optic nerve histology of wild-type and Ndufs4^fky/Ndufs4^fky mice. Semithin sections of optic nerve stained with toluidine blue show damaged axonal structure (black arrow heads) in mutant optic nerve at P58 (n = 2). Moreover, less axons are present in the section of mutant optic nerve, illustrating axonal loss which is more severe in the last case (right panel).
