Electron micorscopy of mitochondria in wild-type and Pisd^{Gt1(Betageo)Jev}/Pisd^{Gt1(Betageo)Jev} mice. Embryos (E8) were prepared for electron microscopy. Untrathin sections were cut and stained with uranyl and acetate and osmium tetroxide. A, representative elongated and tubular mitochondrion from a wild-type embryo. B, typical mitochondria from a Pisd^{Gt1(Betageo)Jev}/Pisd^{Gt1(Betageo)Jev} embryo; mitochondria are rounded and vesicular by cristae are visible. Size bar, 500 nm. C, length and width of mitochondria in wild-type (open circles) and mutant (closed squares) embryonic tissue were measured from electron micrographs. Each symbol represents a single mitochondrion.
