Caption Wound healing in adult wild type and Rock1tm1Sna/Rock1tm1Sna mice. A: Adult wild type (WT) or Rock1tm1Sna/Rock1tm1Sna (KO) mice were shaved on their backs and a 6-mm-diam cylinder of skin (full thickness) was punched out bilaterally. Healing of the wounds was monitored for 10 days. B: Wound area was expressed as a percentage of the initial value. Quantitative data are means +/- SEM (n=8 wounds for each group). C: Hematoxylin and eosin staining of the transverse sections of the wound on day 5 from wild type (left) and mutant mice (right). Arrows indicate the foremost tips of the migrating epithelial sheet. Areas of the migrating epithelial sheet are enlarged in the botom panels. Bars: top, 500um; bottom, 200um. D: Staining of the wound edge. Serial sections of the wound from wild type (top) and mutant (bottom) mice were stained with antibodies to alpha-SMA, keratin 5, phalloidin, and hematoxylin-eosin (H-E). The fields of view shown correspond to the regions boxed in C. Bar, 50um.
