Caption Histology of wild type and Slc4a4tm1Ges/Slc4a4tm1Ges spleen. Spleens of both genotypes were stained with hematoxylin and eosin and examined by light microscopy. Relative to wild type spleen (A), which exhibited normal organization of red pulp (R) and white pulp (W), Slc4a4tm1Ges/Slc4a4tm1Ges spleen (B) exhibited poor organization with many areas that could not be clearly delineated into red pulp and white pulp. At higher magnification of wild type (C) and mutant (D) spleens, the predominance of lymphocytes and smaller size of megakaryocytes (arrows) was apparent in mutants. Scale bars: A and B, 200um; C and D, 100um.
