Phenotype Image Detail
Image
Caption Histological sections of Tubtub/Tubtub retina from mice 10 days to 24 weeks old compared with normal +/+ mouse retina at 2 years old on the right, stained with hematoxylin/eosin. At 2 weeks, the photoreceptor layer appears stunted with poor architecture to both the inner and outer segments; by 4 weeks, there is further disintegration with poorly formed cones as the predominant cell type. By 6 weeks, there is increased disorganization of the photoreceptors and the outer nuclear layer shows a reduction. The degeneration is progressive through 5 months when no discernible photoreceptors are seen. Abbreviations: ganglion cell layer (GCL); inner plexiform layer (IPL); inner nuclear layer (INL); outer plexiform layer (OPL); outer nuclear layer (ONL); photoreceptors (Ph); retinal pigment epithelium (RPE); choriocapillaris (cc). Maginifaction: X340
