Immunoreactivity to antibodies raised against Krt71 (a,b,e,f) and mIRSa3.1 (c,d) in frozen sections of a postnatal day 10 wild-type mouse (a,c,d) and Krt71^Mhdarco12/⁺ or Krt71^Mhdarco12/Krt71^Mhdarco12 mouse (b,d,f) vibrissae (a-d) and dorsal pelage hair follicels (e,f) revealed by Cy3-conjugated secondary antibody (red signal) with DAPI nuclear counterstain (blue signal in a and b). Krt71 immunoreactivity shows linear filaments in the IRS of vibrissae and dorsal pelage hair follicles (arrows in a and e). In the homozygous or heterozygous mutant mouse, the Krt71 innumoreactivity shows aggregates in Henle's and Huxley's layers of the IRS (arrows in b and f) but not in the cuticle. Immunoreactivity to antibody against mIRSa3.1 shows aggregates in Henle's and Huxley's layers of the IRS (large arrows in d) but not in the cuticle (small arrow in d), while the immunoreactivity demonstrates linear filaments throughout the wild-type mouse IRS (arrow in c).
