Abbreviations (bottom to top): inner vitreal surface (thick arrow); ganglion cell layer (g); inner plexiform layer (ipl); inner nuclear layer (inl); outer plexiform layer (opl); outer nuclear layer (onl); inner segment (is); outer segment (os). The mutant ganglion layer contains few cell bodies, most are in the inner plexiform layer (thin arrows). The inner nuclear layer of the mutant is less than 50% of the normal thickness. The number of rows of photoreceptor cell nuclei in the outer nuclear layer is reduced. Inner segments and out segments are missing or malformed. Scale bar: 100 um
