Caption Fig 3A. Alizarin red S/alcian blue staining image of trunk in 10.5 day control (upper) and Npr3stri/Npr3stri(lower) embryos. Dorsal view from lumbar and sacral regions. All truncal vertebrae are present in mutant mice but are enlarged and transverse process abnormalities vary depending on the vertebrae topograpic position(arrows). Fig 3B. Hematoxylin and eosin-stained histological sections of cervical-thoracic vertebrae in 21 day old control (upper) and Npr3stri/Npr3stri(lower) mice. Nucleus pulposus were either absent or smaller in the ventral part of the intervertebral disc in the Npr3stri/Npr3stri mice (arrows). Fig 3C. Growth plates show normal thickness but aberrant proliferations at the ventral and dorsal extremities of the Npr3stri/Npr3stri mouse (arrowheads). Magnification: 3b: x2; 3c: X40
