Parallel hybridizations on carefully staged embryos (A-D) and double in situ hybridizations are shown (E-K). Nkx2-9 expression (red) appears to extend far more caudally and also more dorsally than Nkx2-2 (blue) on transverse sections through the head (E,F) and trunk (G) of a six-somite stage embryo. (H,I)Transverse sections, Shh transcripts are stained in red and Nkx2-9 transcripts in blue. ht, heart; nt, neural tube; pfb, prospective forebrain; phb, prospective hindbrain; pmb, prospective midbrain; so, somite.
