Maf expression is shown as either beta-galactosidase activity in whole embryos or frozen sections at E9.5 and E11, or in situ hybridization with an Maf probe to paraffin sections at E13.5 and E15.5. C, cornea; l, lens; NR, neural retina; RPE, retinal pigment epithelium. (Staining of the RPE in E13.5 and E15.5 sections is caused by pigment granules.)
