Staining of a wild-type (A), a Lim1 knockout homozygous (B) and a Lim1 homozygous knockout; oto/+ embryo (C) with Nkx2.5, a marker of the cardiac mesoderm. The compound mutant embryo in D has posterior mesoderm in the form of an allantois but otherwise lacks evidence of an embryonic body axis.
