Glossary Term Virus
Definition A noncellular biological entity that requires a host cell for reproduction. Viruses consist of a nucleic acid genome that is either DNA or, in the case of retroviruses, RNA. The viral genome is covered with a protein coat; some viruses have a host-derived membrane over the protein coat.
