Glossary Term Southern Blot
Definition An assay that detects specific DNA molecules using a DNA or RNA probe with sequence similarity. Samples are subjected to electrophoresis on a slab gel. A replica of the gel is then made on a membrane by capillary transfer following denaturation. Specific DNA sequences are then detected on the membrane with a radioactively- or chemically-labeled probe.
