Glossary Term Hydrophobic
Definition Literally, "water-fearing"; nonpolar compounds that are immiscible with water. The side chains of some amino acids are nonpolar, and hence protein sequences rich in these amino acids tend to locate to the interior of the protein in its native state, away from the solvent.
