| Definition | A polymer composed of different subunits. Some multimeric proteins are normally heteropolymers. Heteropolymers can also be made experimentally, using subunits derived from different species, as a test of homology. Formation of a functional multimeric protein product using subunits from different species is a demonstration of homology. |
