Glossary Term Closed Colony
Definition A closed colony contains limited genetic diversity, and is maintained neither by sib-mating (inbred), nor by selective mating to maximize heterozygosity (outbred). All matings occur within the colony members, but breeders need not be selected from specific parentage. No animals are introduced into the colony from outside the stock from generation to generation.
