Definition: A breast carcinoma that is characterized by large cell size, polygonal shape, low nuclear-cytoplasmic ratio, finely granular eosinophilic cytoplasm, occasionally prominent nucleoli, peripheral palisading, mitosis, and necrosis and in which greater than 50% of the tumor cells are positive for neuroendocrine markers (NSE, chromogranin A, synaptophysin).
