Definition: An otitis externa which involves bacterial infections often related to underlying comorbidities as well as trauma. Common sources of trauma include ear piercing, boxing, blunt trauma, burns, bite wounds and iatrogenic insults. The common bacterial pathogens are staphylococcal and streptococcal species.
